Heritage House continually strives to improve its offer for our learners. With that in mind, we have gradually opened two after-school clubs. The Games Club is the older one of the two, finishing its second season July 2024. It offers opportunities for playing and socialising outside of school hours and is attended mainly by learners who can be collected by their parents. It is run by our PD Lead Šárka Viehoff with support from many staff members. Our fourteen learners from all three departments love gathering once a week in the LEAF playground where they play chasing and hiding games, enjoy using the climbing frame and whizz around on our Tuff trikes or just use the time for chilling and observing others. Ball activities are popular too, with cricket being at the top of the list. You should see how that keeps our learners as well as staff active and competitive.
We would like to give a huge thank you to Bucks Community Board who awarded us the grant of £5077 to help us purchase inclusive play equipment for our learners who attend our Tuesday Games Club. The club was able to purchase five Tuff trikes, a fire engine truck, two heavy duty scooters and a basketball hoop set from this money. The equipment is hugely popular as the trikes are accessible to many abilities. The benefits are wide, ranging from the fun aspect all the way to developing muscle strength, coordination and social interaction.
This year we opened a swimming club as well, which runs twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This opportunity is offered to learners from Adventurers and Discoverers departments. The club caters for around ten swimmers who share lessons throughout the year. The main theme is to have fun as well as work on water confidence under the watchful eye of Anna Zygadlo, our swimming coach and her staff.
